Job Description:
ASSISTANT PROFESSOR (Tenure-Track), MUSICAL THEATER, SYRACUSE UNIVERSITY
The Department of Drama, within the College of Visual and Performing Arts, a highly ranked BFA program uniquely integrated with a major regional theater, seeks to hire a tenure-track assistant professor in the Musical Theater program with expertise in one or more of the following areas: musical theater performance, music direction, musical theater history and literature. The department is actively seeking candidates who value equity and inclusion, who incorporate marginalized voices and perspectives into their pedagogy, and who have experience mentoring students and/or performers of diverse identities. We are looking for collaborative colleagues who will participate in the life of a vibrant department. Selected candidates will teach courses at all levels within the performance curriculum, will serve as music director or associate music director (and possibly, stage director) for departmental productions. Relevant advanced degree required.

Relevant advanced degree required.

Job Specific Qualifications:
Demonstrated professional experience, teaching, and creative activity that will contribute to the advancement of equity, diversity, and cultural wealth. Demonstrated excellence as a pianist, vocal coach, and/or music director. Ability to adapt and possibly arrange music, as needed, in conjunction with coursework and/or production preparation Extensive knowledge of the Musical Theater repertoire Demonstrated teaching excellence. Commitment to the development of a curriculum that responds effectively to the artistic needs of an ever-changing profession, and that prepares a diverse array of students to assume leadership roles. Ability and willingness to collaborate with faculty in all programs (Acting, Musical Theater, Theater Design and Technology, Stage Management, and Theater Management) in the ongoing life of a top-quality pre-professional training program.



Responsibilities:
Teach a variety of courses at all levels (e.g., Musical Theater Performance, History of Musical Theater, Musical Theater Audition, Musical Theater Writing, etc.), as assigned by the Chair and based upon expertise. Engage in inclusive pedagogy and the advancement of inclusion, equity, diversity, and cultural wealth. Serve as Music Director or Associate Music Director for department productions of varying size and scope. Serve as both an academic and creative advisor to students, guiding them in the creation and realization of professional quality work in accordance with current emerging best professional practices. Engage in continued professional creative work and/or research. Participate in service and committee work for Department, College of Visual and Performing Arts, and Syracuse University.
